Introduction: Talent or Grit?

In the world of competitive speedcubing, every millisecond on the timer carries the weight of countless finger movements. Recently, at the CCA Wuxi Spring Open, 7-year-old Zong Yuze stunned the community by clocking a staggering 3.36 seconds, officially breaking the China National Record for the Smart 3x3 Rubik's Cube category (Single).

From discovering the cube at age 5 to standing at the pinnacle of national records at age 7, this young cuber from Yixing, Jiangsu, proves one thing: "Interest is the best teacher, and persistence makes passion incredibly cool."

The Early Days: A Self-Taught Journey Before Learning to Read

Zong Yuze’s journey didn't start in a professional training camp; it began with pure curiosity.

In March 2024, at just five years old, Yuze became obsessed with an old cube at home. Since he hadn't yet learned to read many Chinese characters, he relied entirely on the illustrations in the GAN Cube manual. Step by step, he puzzled out the "Layer-by-Layer" method on his own.

"Back then, I saw cubes every time I closed my eyes. My skin was peeling from practicing so much, and I’d even mutter algorithms in my sleep."

This level of immersion laid the foundation for his future success. From the basic Layer-by-Layer method to the advanced CFOP system, he slowly unlocked the gates to the world of professional speedcubing.

The Transformation: From 25s to a 5.55s Personal Best

Success didn't happen overnight. Yuze’s progression was a testament to his "never-give-up" attitude:

  • May 2024: Participated in his first competition with a 25-second average. He missed the finals but gained a fierce determination to improve.
  • February 2025: Began professional speedcubing coaching. His average was around 12 seconds at the time.
  • Today: His 3x3 Personal Best (PB) is 5.55s (Single) and 7.38s (Average).

His progress comes from at least 2 hours of dedicated practice every single day. Under professional guidance, he began refining his Finger Tricks and analyzing every turn to transform mechanical movements into a fluid "fingertip art."

The Peak Moment: The Meaning Behind 3.36 Seconds

When the timer froze at 3.36s at the CCA Wuxi Spring Open, the atmosphere was electric. This wasn't just a fast solve; it was a milestone for Smart Cube technology.

What is the Smart Cube Category? Unlike traditional cubes, Smart Cubes connect via Bluetooth to track every move, rotation, and TPS (Turns Per Second) in real-time. Breaking this record requires not just raw speed, but an incredibly high level of logic and efficiency.

Yuze’s record reflects his ability to stay calm under pressure—a trait that defines a true champion.
